If you are looking for the outdoors, the Miramichi Region is the place to visit. The region’s major attraction, Beaubears Island National Park, itself a legacy of Governor’s Mansion's previous owner. The island is just in front of Governor’s Mansion and our guests can visit the nearby Beaubears Island Interpretive Centre where they can learn about the two National Historic Sites: Boishébert and Beaubears Island Shipbuilding National Historic Sites of Canada, J. Leonard O'Brien Memorial. Get to the island by boat or paddle yourself in a canoe or kayak. This is a key stop in Northern New Brunswick’s Destination Acadie Experience where you will learn about early settlement, the Acadian deportation, Camp D’Ésperance and the subsequent 19th century shipbuilding on Beaubears Island.
There is plenty to do right on our doorstep. We offer 2 to 7 day adventures and extended stay vacations that can include: fine dining, festivals, historic tours, river cruises, parks, beaches, fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, cycling, golf, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and snowmobile trails. Or simply follow the walking trails on your own along the river and on Beaubears Island.
Governor's Mansion is only 25 minutes from Metapenagiag Heritage Park for a truly authentic indigenous experience. Let the Mi’kmaq tell you about over 3,000 years of life on the Miramichi. We are only 40 minutes from Kouchibouguac National Park and 60 minutes from the Village Historique Acadien.
